In late 2020, I started to get tired of all of the hard seltzers with artificial ingredients - and taste - that dominated the market. Filled with chemical flavorings (instead of real fruit juice), sugar, and other unhealthy additives, it felt like the big beer brands who make them weren’t even trying.
These giant companies brag that their seltzers are full of “natural flavors”, which are anything but natural - they can contain synthetic solvents, emulsifiers, and preservatives. Even the so-called higher quality hard seltzers tout their real fruit juice, but only use a pinch of juice with a whole bunch of chemical flavors and additives to keep costs and headaches low.
I knew people deserved - and wanted - better than just carbonated water mixed with chemicals. We want something that tastes great and makes us feel good about what we’re drinking.
We kicked the chemicals and added sugar to the curb and began designing a new kind of better-for-you hard seltzer from the ground up: Livvy. We started with a blend of mighty botanicals in every sip: ginger root, prickly pear, dandelion root, and licorice root extract. We decided to only use real fruit juice for real flavor and a premium wine base (instead of getting our alcohol from malt or sugar like other seltzers) for an incredibly smooth taste.
